Our Commitment To You

E.J. Edgerton & Son are here to help E.J Edgerton is well established in the making of funeral arrangements and will tailor these arrangements to meet your needs. As your Funeral Directors, we are here to advise and assist you in making all those arrangements. Please remember that we are here to help you, in whatever way we can, to cope and adjust to your bereavement. For this reason, we feel that it is important that you are aware at any time during this period – all you have to do is call.

As soon as we are notified of the death, the family’s well being becomes our primary concern. After any immediate assistance that may be necessary, we will establish when it will be convenient to meet to make final arrangements, which can be done at our premises or if you prefer, within the comfort of your own home.

It is our policy not to impose any urgency on you so that you can make the decisions without undue pressure. A funeral is one of life’s most personal events and we know how important it is for each family to decide on a funeral, which is as meaningful as possible to their particular needs and circumstances.

Bereavement Support
Our aim is to provide excellent quality of service and facilities and to offer our clients as wide a range of services and prices as possible.

The care of the deceased is of paramount importance in our role in your bereavement, but whatever the practical aspects we also remember that one of our prime considerations is for the living. For your assistance and guidance both now and in the future, we are professionals in all aspects of funeral directing and can advise on bereavement support organisations. You may also go to the useful links section of this website where there are links to various national support organisations where you can obtain free advice on how to cope with the loss of a loved one, caring for someone close to you who has a terminal illness or support for children who have lost a parent.

The director can provide you with an estimate of the total costs of the arrangements. The cost of a funeral is made up of two distinct elements; firstly, our professional fees for the services we shall provide in accordance with your instructions and as shown in the estimate, and secondly the disbursements fees which we shall pay on your behalf, over which we have no control, to such people as Doctors, Ministers, Crematoria and Local Authorities.
Financial Assistance
Under certain circumstances the next of kin of the deceased responsible for making the funeral arrangements with the director may be eligible for a grant or loan from the Department of Social Services. We are not able to guarantee the availability of a grant, but we do understand the parameters in which the Department of Social Services make their judgement and we can help and advise you as to whether or not you are likely to be eligible.

Similarly, in certain circumstances, grants are available from other organisations and where this is applicable we will advise you, this will depend entirely upon your personal circumstances, and our staff will help you make the necessary applications. If you feel it is likely that you are eligible for such assistance, please do not hesitate to ask us.

The Chapel of Rest
E.J. Edgerton private Chapel of Rest At E.J Edgerton & Son, we have our own private Chapel of Rest at your disposal during these difficult times. We only ask that all visitors to the chapel to view the deceased make an appointment and arrange a time that is convenient. The Chapel of Rest can be opened out of normal hours by this arrangement. We do not mind how many times you visit or how long you wish to be with the deceased. You may wish to bring flowers or photographs to place in the coffin if you wish.
For those family members of the deceased who are unable to make the journey to our private Chapel of Rest, we offer a driver courtesy service where we will happily collect you from your home in the local district and bring you to our Chapel of Rest where you can spend that much needed time with the deceased.
